Hometown Hero: Christianne Curran

Christianne Curran knows finance. She's the Director of Treasury at Plano-based Dr. Pepper Snapple. She's also a volunteer with the YWCA of Metro Dallas, teaching people the ABC's of dollars and cents.

Since 2004 the Dallas YW has had a free Financial Empowerment Program. Almost 20,000 women and a few men have taken that course to learn financial literacy and break the bonds of poverty.

Christianne teaches a free Financial Empowerment Workshop and of those who graduate, 4 out of 5 parents now show their kids how to budget and save because they've learned that lesson.

38% of children in Dallas live in poverty. The YW and Christianne are working to reduce that sad statistic.

On May 11th, Christianne Curran will be honored for giving almost 160 volunteer hours to the YW. The YW Mentors & Allies Awards Luncheon will honor 5 other community leaders. If you'd like to attend call 214.584.2318. FOX 4's Jenny Anchondo will MC the luncheon.
