Good Samaritan returns thousands in missing funds to local business owner

A Fort Worth business owner is extra grateful for the actions of a stranger, who found a deposit bag with $7,000 in cash and checks.

Soofia Malik and Gene Fleetwood were once strangers.  Brought together by chance and honesty Wednesday evening at the Fort Worth Police South Division Headquarters.

“He was telling him we found a bag and he said you found a bag?! And we just start screaming,” said Malik.

Her husband decided to help and take the bag to the bank…but made a common mistake on the way.

“He put the bag on top of the car and went outside to check then mail and when he came inside to take the car from the garage, he drove off and he forgot.” said Malik.

The deposit bag flew off the car, landing on Trail Lake Dr. near Altamesa Blvd. That's when Fleetwood drove by and knew instantly what he was looking at.

“Looked inside and I'm thinking someone is going to have a bad day” he said.

Without a moment's hesitation, Fleetwood drove the bag to the police station.

“The gentlemen that was there said boy I'm glad you brought this back because we've been getting lots of calls about this bag,” said Fleetwood.

Needless to say, it didn't take long to return the bag to its rightful owners, making this Thanksgiving that much sweeter.
