Hometown Heroes: Granny Lewis

Marietta Lewis is a foster grandmother at The Family Place. The children who live there temporarily with their parent are out of their homes because of domestic violence.

They call Lewis "Granny" because that's the way she relates to them: through lots of love, nurturing and wisdom.

Granny rocks babies and helps pre-K and older kids with schoolwork.

She's been there for five years, five days a week, putting in a full day of work and loves doing so.

Granny Lewis is a breast cancer survivor and a survivor of domestic violence.

Her message to those trapped in that pain and fear is simple and direct: "You can get out, you can get help.”

The Family Place has a 24-hour domestic violence hotline. The number to call for help is 214-941-1991.
