Fort Worth 11-year-old killed after being impaled by apartment complex fence

A young boy died Monday after he tried to jump a fence and was accidentally impaled.

Fort Worth police said officers were called to the Ladera Palm Apartments around 7 p.m. after a group of kids climbed over a fence into a locked pool area. When apartment security told them to leave, they scattered and jumped back over the fence.

That’s when police said 11-year-old Jean Pierre Mwenge lost his footing and was impaled by one of the iron rods. He was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center where he later died.

It’s still early in the investigation but at this point, police are calling it a tragic accident.
