Forney softball team heads to playoffs with memory of 14-year-old player

- The Forney High School softball team will honor a teammate killed in a car accident a year ago.

The Lady Jackrabbits are on a mission. They’re strong bond and skills on the field have earned them a trip to the state playoffs.

The players have grown in strength as a team over the past year, especially for 14-year-old Emily Galiano’s twin sister and the teammate who caused a crash that claimed her life.

Galiano died a year ago after being accidentally struck by a vehicle following a team dinner. Her death resulted in an overwhelming show of fortitude.

The team, including Galiano’s twin sister, told FOX 4’s Lori Brown earlier this week that they are drawing inspiration from the faith she always had.

“Just to do life without her is not easy because I’ve had her with me since I was born, like in the womb together. I haven’t gone a day without her,” said Madison Galiano.

“I know she would be proud of where we are today, and I know we will see her again one day,” Trinity Cannon added.

The team said whatever the outcome of the tournament, it is clear the victory is already theirs.

They’ll wear tribute shirts as they depart Thursday morning. They play their first game Friday at noon.
