First human West Nile Virus case reported in Dallas County

Dallas County has its first human case of West Nile for the 2016 season. Dallas County Health and Human Services said the patient lives in the 75060 zip code in Irving.

DCHHS encourages taking measures to reduce exposure to mosquitoes. It suggests wearing EPA approved repellent all day, wearing loose and long clothes while outside, drain standing water around homes and limit outdoor activities during peak mosquito times. Mosquitos are most active at dusk and dawn.

More information on repellent recommendations can be found on the CDC’s website.

There have been no deaths from West Nile in Dallas County in 2016. At least two people in the county died from it in 2015.
