Denton to vote on a plan for new Buc-ees travel center

Denton approves tax incentives for a Buc-ee's Travel Center.

The plan to build a Texas-sized gas station in Denton goes before the city council Tuesday night.

There was a packed house at Denton City Hall ahead of the vote on Tuesday night.

The Buc-ees near Interstate 35E and Lillian Miller Parkway would have 96 gas pumps and 52,000 square feet of retail space.

But neighbors fear it will bring increased traffic, light and noise.

The same project was rejected by the next city down the highway – Corinth.

Buc-ees also wants millions of dollars in incentives from Denton.

If approved, it would open in May 2017.

At Tuesday’s city council meeting, the public comments were split.

About half the people who spoke asked the council to green light the incentives. People were seen wearing Buc-ees shirts that the store sells in support.
