Denton apartment floor collapses, 50 residents displaced

Several people suffered minor injuries when the third floor of a Denton apartment building collapsed on Saturday.

It happened  just before 2:00 a.m. at The Ridge at North Texas apartments located near Highway 288.

Denton police said there was a large party happening in a 3rd floor apartment during the collapse.

Police said videos posted to social media show party-goers jumping up and down when the floor gave way and collapsed into the second-floor apartment.

Six people were treated at the scene, but no one was taken to the hospital, according to Denton police.

"The university is here to help any of our students who may have been impacted. The Ridge is a private facility in the City of Denton, and any information regarding the incident would need to come from either the property owner or operator, and the City of Denton PIO," a University of North Texas spokesperson said.

Denton police said about 50 residents will be displaced.
