Dallas Zoo welcomes its first penguin chick to hatch there

A baby giraffe isn't the only newborn animal getting attention at the Dallas Zoo -- the penguin population there grew, too.

The zoo's first ever penguin chick hatched April 15, zoo officials announced Tuesday.

The African black-footed penguin is about 2.5 pounds and was welcomed by its parents, Tazo and Tulip.

It's unclear if the bird has a name yet, but zoo officials say it will remain off habitat with its parents for a few months until it learns how to swim.

The zoo's newest giraffe, Kipenzi, became an internet sensation following its April birth.
