Dallas teen arrested for threatening classmates online
DALLAS - A 17-year-old Dallas ISD student has been arrested for allegedly making a threat against his school.
Police said Everrick Murrell created a fake Instagram account and then posted a threat against two fellow students.
He brought the threat to the attention of school officials at John Leslie Patton Junior Academic Center, but apparently did not take responsibility for it, police said.
When police investigated the threat they were able to link Murrell to the social media account. He was arrested Monday night at his grandmother’s house.
Police said no weapons were found and they have no reason to believe the teen actually intended to cause harm, but said the threat was still serious.
"These are words and not just words but in writing. These are things you can't take back," said DISD PD Chief Craig Miller. "This is not a joke this is very serious and that's how we take this."
If convicted of the crime, Murrell faces 2-10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
