Dallas father arrested for murdering 3-year-old son, stabbing child's mother

A 35-year-old father is jailed in Dallas, accused of killing his son.

Connie Michael says she can’t get the image of the lifeless 3-year-old boy out of her head.

“I just wish we could come together and stop hurting these little kids,” she said. ”I mean why I had to see this. It's just devastating. It's heartbreak.”

Michael says she was coming home to the Greens of Hickory Trail Apartments in South Dallas, around 6:30 Saturday evening, when she saw police lights and heard screaming.

“I said, 'What happened?' And they said, 'Man, that man just stabbed his girlfriends and his kids.' And I said, 'What?'”

Michael says, as police were assessing the situation and getting into position, she started pleading with the man, identified by Dallas Police as Brandon Edwards, as he hung out of the second story window, she says, with a knife in hand.

“I said, 'Son, please.' I said, 'Whatever is going on in your life. It's going to be okay. We love you. We're here to help you.' I said, 'Please, surrender yourself. Don't hurt nobody.' And you could just hear the mother and child still screaming.”

Police say the mother was able to get out of the apartment with the couple's 7-year-old daughter to call for help, but returned to the home for their 3-year-old son, and was stabbed herself by Edwards.

“And he started screaming, 'Machiavelli is alive. Machiavelli is alive.' And I was like, please.”

Police say Edwards jumped from the window, was taken into custody and charged with capital murder for stabbing his 3-year-old son to death. Michael and her own children left a teddy bear and flowers at the apartment Sunday.

“The little boy who lost his life, I mean, he's not forgotten.”

The mother is in the hospital. The 7-year-old child is not injured. Brandon Edwards is charged with aggravated assault and capital murder, and is being held in the Dallas County jail on $1.75-million bond.
