Couple gets married in hospital as woman battles cancer

A North Texas couple is serving as a testament to the power of love and time.

Tom and Deborah Youngblood were married in the chapel at Methodist Richardson Medical Center on Friday afternoon. Deborah is in the hospital because she’s battling cancer.

The couple dated in high school, but when Tom asked Deborah to go steady she said no.

They both went on to marry other people but kept in touch over the years. Now in their late 60s, they found themselves single again and rekindled their relationship.

Deborah is currently spending a lot of time at the hospital battling colon cancer, so they decided to stop waiting and tie the knot.

“We were sitting there one night watching TV in the hospital room and he's like 'you know, we don't have to wait until December to get married, and I'm like OK,” Deborah said.

Tom said it was a special day.

"The message is I guess that never give up and love lasts forever and that love can just get you through a lot of things,” Tom said.

The newlyweds say they have several destinations in mind for a honeymoon, but are still working on picking a place to go.
