Conservative commentator Glenn Beck pays Walmart layaway bills in North Richland Hills

The new thing for celebrities to do is to pay off customers’ layaway bills at Walmart.

Filmmaker Tyler Perry and singer Kid Rock have done it. Now, a North Texas conservative commentator has joined that club.

Smiles have crossed a good number of faces among people showing up at the Walmart in North Richland Hills, thanks to the generosity of television host Glenn Beck.

Walmart confirms Beck cleared the tab for every existing layaway at the store, leaving the remaining balance at one cent for each layaway customer.

Beck says he was inspired to do it by entertainment mogul Tyler Perry who did the same thing at a Walmart in Atlanta. He thought it would be a matter of making one payment, but he had to pay for each transaction separately.

Beck spent $27,000 to take care of the layaway transactions. Beck says the experience was incredibly humbling.
