Arlington teen who inspired lip dub video dies from rare cancer

A TCU sophomore who was once featured on FOX 4 has died from cancer.

Taylor Helland was diagnosed with a rare form of colon cancer when she was 14 years old.

In 2013, the student body at Martin High School in Arlington honored her with a unique fundraiser on campus. It was an elaborate lib-dub production involving a lengthy one-take video shoot.

Her father said she managed to graduate and remained active remain active while in college. She also raised awareness for pediatric cancers for as long as she could.

“We just don’t know where she got her strength, but she didn’t want cancer to define her. She wanted to be able to live her life and do what she needed to do, which was great,” Bob Helland said.

Taylor died at her home surrounded by family on Feb. 20. She was 19-years-old.
