11 hurt after police chase ends with crash near Dallas North Tollway

Eleven people, nine of them teenagers, were hurt when an SUV and car collided early Monday during a police chase that started in Carrollton and ended in Dallas.

Carrollton police responded to a report of a theft in progress about 1:15 a.m. An officer spotted a Cadillac Escalade in the area of the call and tried to pull over that vehicle, but the driver took off and that’s when a chase began.

The police pursuit ended with a crash at the LBJ service road and Dallas Parkway in North Dallas. The white Escalade failed to stop at a red light and slammed into a black Lexus SUV.

There were nine young people, 5 males and 4 female believed to be from 13 to 16 years old, inside the Escalade. They were all taken to various hospitals for evaluation and several had minor injuries.

There was a man and a woman inside the Lexus. They were also taken to the hospital and were reportedly in serious condition, but the injuries were not life threatening.

Police are trying to determine if the Escalade was stolen and whether any of the teens inside that vehicle were connected to the original theft call.

While the teens are being treated, they are under police guard at the hospital.
