A woman was arrested and is facing theft charges after she allegedly took food from the plate of a police officer in D.C.

The incident happened Wednesday night at the Italian Kitchen on U in the northwest.

Police told FOX 5's Melanie Alnwick that the officer was eating dinner at the restaurant when two woman, who police believe were intoxicated, sat down next to him and tried to start a conversation. Police say one of the women reached over and took a french fry from the officer’s plate.

When she took a second fry, the officer asked her to stop. "I then politely asked D-1 to not do that again because I paid for that food and she was stealing from me and she could be arrested for theft of my food," the officer wrote in the police report.

The woman allegedly told the officer, "Well then you might as well take me to jail."

When the woman reached over and took a third fry, the officer arrested her. She faces theft charges at this time. The investigation into the incident is continuing.
