A 6-year-old girl had to hold on for her life after getting stuck in the door of her school bus, WGHP reported.

The bus driver has resigned, according to a spokesperson for the Winston-Salem school system.

Her family says her shoes were ripped to shreds as she was dragged nearly a mile.

The shoe company FILA heard about Chelsea's story and that she was wearing their shoes. So, they decided to send her two new pairs and some clothes just in time for Christmas.

Chelsea Klepzig is a first grader at Union Cross Elementary School in Forsyth County, according to WGHP.

Monday afternoon her grandmother was waiting for her at Stonington Way Court. She watched as Chelsea got stuck and followed the bus for almost a mile to Pine Meadow Court, her feet dangling the entire way.

"She just fall off to the ground and he don't even know it," Chelsea's grandmother, Estrella Klepzig said.

Estrella says not only did Chelsea have to get off the bus, but she also needed to go in front of it to get to the other side. She says the bus driver didn't let her do either.

"You didn't even give her a chance to move. She was still in the door," Chelsea's grandmother said.

Chelsea is doing okay and only ended up with scrapes and bruises.

Chelsea's mom says had her arm not been stuck in the door as far up as it was she probably wouldn't have been able to keep herself off the ground.

The school system says the 78-year-old bus driver was a substitute and had worked for them since 2000. He has not been charged.
