A new relief pitcher for the Texas Rangers was arrested overnight for driving while intoxicated.

Records show 28-year-old Jeremy Jeffress was booked into the Dallas County jail around 5 a.m. Friday. His bond was set at $500.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, officers pulled Jeffress over as he was leaving Sisu Uptown, a nightclub on Maple Avenue. He allegedly failed to use a signal when changing lanes and almost hit another car.

The officers noted he had bloodshot, watery and glassy eyes. His speech was slurred, his breath smelled of alcohol and he failed a field sobriety test, according to the affidavit.

Jeffress admitted to having three to four cups of Hennessy mixed with Coke in a four-hour period. The document also states officers found an opened bottle of Hennessy and a ziplock bag filled with something that appeared to be either marijuana or synthetic marijuana in his car.

A judge ordered Jeffress' blood tested for marijuana and synthetic marijuana.

The Rangers said Friday afternoon they would place Jeffress on MLB's restricted list for Friday night's game, but no further punishment was announced.

"The Rangers are certainly disappointed in Jeremy's actions of early this morning," said Rangers GM Jon Daniels. "We have been in touch with Jeremy's representatives and Major League Baseball, and are continuing to work through this situation and gather more information."

Jeffress joined the Rangers in early August after a last-minute trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. So far he's pitched nine innings and given up four runs.

"I thought I was going to be a Brewer forever, but I am excited to be here," Jeffress said when he got to Texas.

He’s also pitched for the Kansas City Royals and the Toronto Blue Jays. He's been suspended twice by Major League Baseball for testing positive for marijuana in 2007 and 2009.
