CLEBURNE, Texas – The Cleburne Railroaders have placed Rafael Palmeiro on the disabled list, the club announced Friday. Palmeiro, 53, has not played since August 8 due to an ongoing knee injury.
In 31 games with Cleburne, Palmeiro has batted .301 with six home runs and 21 RBI in 103 at-bats.
“It’s just a nagging injury that has flared up again,” Palmeiro said. “We’re hoping that a few full days off will allow me the time and recovery I need to get back in the lineup for the final two weeks of the season.”
Palmeiro has hits in each of his last three games and is 6-for-13 with two walks and 5 RBI in that span. The Railroaders are currently on the road in Kansas City and return home to open a three-game set with the AirHogs on Monday, August 20.
Cleburne's stadium is approximately 45 miles from the Texas Rangers' ballpark, where Palmeiro played 10 of his 20 major league seasons.
