A young NASCAR driver visiting a Dallas hospital told his story of loss to help spread awareness about organ and tissue donation.
Joey Gase, 23, was at the UT Southwestern Medical Center on Wednesday and unveiled the Donate Life race car he'll be driving in Saturday's O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 XFinity Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Gase also visited patients at the hospital and opened up about his mother's death in 2011. Gase and his family had to make the decision of whether to donate her organs and tissue.
“We said yes to donation,” Gase said. “We learned she was able to help save and improve the lives, through organ donation, tissue donation and cornea donation, of 66 people,” Gase said.
During the event people also got the chance to sign their names and put their hand prints on the Donate Life race car.
