The biggest name in golf will soon call North Texas home.

Frisco city leaders approved a $500 million deal to bring in the brand new Professional Golfers Association of America headquarters along with championship-caliber golf courses and a resort.

It's all expected to be built on this stretch of land along the Dallas North Tollway at Panther Creek Parkway.

The $500 million deal three years in the making culminated in a city council vote late Tuesday afternoon.

The PGA is moving its headquarters from Florida to Frisco and will join the Cowboys, the Hockey Stars, FC Dallas Soccer Club and others in a city where the mayor says people can dream ridiculous dreams and make them come true.

“This will be our ninth organization that we have in Frisco,” said Mayor Jeff Cheney. “It really is Sports City, USA.”

The headquarters and training center will eventually employ 250 people. There will be an Omni Hotel Conference Center and two championship-caliber semipublic golf courses. They should all be completed in summer of 2022.

North Texas has not seen a golfing major championship since the 1960s, but the PGA is promising to change that.

“The PGA Championship will be here in 2027 and 2034,” said PGA COO Darell Crall. “And the unprecedented cadence of championships includes the women’s PGA championship, the senior PGA championship and others.”

The PGA is also promising to partner with the school district much as the Cowboys have and offering its facilities to Frisco ISD students.

But the PGA complex and the development surrounding it are in the northern end of the city. It will take $35 million in public investment. The council promises there won’t be a property or sales tax increase, but it will generate billions in revenue in years to come.

Both the PGA and city officials say those other sports organizations and those other fortune 500 companies that have moved there recently were part of the sales team encouraging the PGA to come join the crowd.
