Trump lead just three points in Texas two weeks before election
A new Texas statewide poll shows Donald Trump leading Hillary Clinton by just three points – within the margin of error.
A CBS News/YouGov poll conducted after the final debate had Trump leading Clinton 46 percent to 43 percent. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson had 5 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein had 1 percent.
The poll is one of multiple statewide polls that shows the margin in reliably red Texas is single digits. President Obama lost the state by 12 points in 2008 and 16 points in 2012.
The CBS News/YouGov poll shows Trump has 10 percent less support from white voters and Republicans than John McCain got in 2008. Those voters are either undecided or voting for Gary Johnson, the poll found.
Young voters in Texas also favor Clinton. The poll had Clinton leading by 21 points with voters age 18-29 and an 8 point lead with voters 30-44.
Just 40 percent of Texans say Trump is prepared to be Commander-in-Chief, compared to 51 percent who said Hillary Clinton is prepared. But 70 percent of voters said Clinton is not honest and trustworthy and 56 percent believe Trump’s proposed border wall with Mexico is a good idea.
The poll was conducted Oct. 20-21 and the margin of error was +/- 4.4 percent.
