Local pastor meets with Trump about religious concerns

DALLAS - First Baptist Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress hosted a closed-door meeting between Donald Trump and Christian leaders in New York City.

Jeffress said the theologians had concerns over what he called a “secular progressive agenda” and attack on religious liberties.

During an interview with Bill O’Reily on the FOX News channel, Jeffress was asked if religious leaders were willing to overlook Trump’s personal lifestyle in order to get a conservative candidate elected.

“With him seated to my left I said, ‘Look, I’m not going to choose Donald Trump to be my child’s third grade Sunday school teacher, but that’s not what this election is about.’ It’s about looking for somebody who can reverse the death spiral of this country,” he said.

Jeffress, who is on Trump’s executive evangelical advisory board, admitted getting push back from a few members at the meeting for calling the election a battle between good and evil.
