Worldwide support pours in for Ft. Worth officer shot

It's been more than two weeks since a Fort Worth officer was shot in the line of duty. While he remains in critical condition, support is coming in from all over the world.

The department recently asked police supporters to send in patches for Officer Matthew Pearce, and they immediately rose to the challenge. Scores of patches poured in from countries around the globe. They will eventually be sewn together into a blanket.

“The blue family is worldwide and, to know that that support is there, is really incredible,” said Sgt. Rick Van Houten with the Fort Worth Police Department. “It reaffirms in you why you do what you do. Why we got out and protect and serve. Put our life on the line."

Officer Pearce's condition continues to improve. Many feared he would die after he was shot earlier in March chasing a fugitive.

Pearce is now sitting up in bed and received surgery Wednesday on his jaw.
