The body of a man who went missing after his sailboat capsized at White Rock Lake on Sunday afternoon has been located.

Conrad Callicoatte, 80, was boating with a friend when a strong gust of wind flipped the boat over. She was rescued by another boat, but he never resurfaced.

Callicoatte had been talking to those on board the chase boat, but he suddenly stopped treading water, and no one was able to catch him as he sank. Callicoatte was not wearing a life jacket.

"Right now our members are really in shock and grief," Robert Hunt of White Rock Boat Club said.

The call came it about 3 p.m. A command post was set up near White Rock Road and West Lawther Drive on the southwest side of the lake. The search for him began Sunday afternoon, but his body wasn't located until Monday afternoon.

The White Rock Lake Boat Club commodore says Callicoatte was their most experienced sailor, with 40-plus years of experience.

"It's going to be a huge void for the boat club," Hunt said. "Conrad was there every day. Everyone knew him. All of us relied on him for advice and help."

Friends wonder if Callicoatte had some kind of medical episode that caused him to suddenly go under while he was treading water.

The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
