FOX 4's Dionne Anglin talked to the suspect, Tasheki Anderson, at the Lew Sterrett jail on Friday.
"I love that baby," said Anderson. "I was kissing that baby. I went from hugging that baby. In my mind, I was hugging and touching that baby..."
Anderson says she snapped when she held her niece by her legs and slammed her head against the concrete ground several times before she tossed her into a puddle and ran.
Anderson says it was all a blur.
"My actions and my words have to catch up to me," she said. "Like to me, it's like, to me, what the f***? That's what I did. When I seen that baby, I almost died."
"You knew what you did as soon as you did it?" asked FOX 4.
"Not really," said Anderson. "I knew what was going on, but like, I didn't know intentionally…understand it until I came back and seen that baby on the ground. I just angry and I'll go."
Anderson was arrested at the Skyline Place apartments, where the incident happened.
The baby girl suffered head injuries and broken bones.
The arrest warrant affidavit summarizes after Anderson's arrest, "she became irate and only yelled obscenities. No interview could be conducted due to her attitude."
Anderson today says she had gone to her mother's apartment, and her sister's children were there with a girl she doesn't like.
"I don't even know how hard I hit that baby on the ground," said Anderson. "Like, I just went, like, snap mode. I wanted to do that to Selena, actually."
"But if you didn't like the girl, why did you hurt the baby?" asked FOX 4.
"I didn't hurt the baby intentionally," said Anderson. "I didn't know I was going to hurt the baby. Didn't you hear me say I snapped? When I snap, I don't feel nothing. No thought, no nothing. It's just a flip reaction from the words that I spoke. It was like, I love you to death, I was kissing this baby, loving her, love to death!"
As Anderson's interview with FOX 4 went on, Anderson became combative.
"You asked me a question. Let me finish, little lady!" said Anderson. "‘Cause I went from one f****** day with rage..."
Anderson also used lots of profanity, even in an apology to her sister, the baby's mother.
"To my sister, I apologize…'cause you know I love your baby..."
FOX 4 has been trying to confirm the child's condition at Children's Medical Center in Dallas.
We have been unable to. The family has requested that no information be released.
