Weekend storms cause cancelations and concerns across DFW

WYLIE, Texas - Sunday storms forced the cancelation of several events around DFW, and created even more headaches for homeowners in Wylie.

A father and son were disappointed to hear the Texas Ranger’s matchup at Globe Life Park in Arlington was called off, “today’s my son’s birthday and he really wanted to come to the game,” said Luis Simental.

Weather also stole the show at the Main Street Arts festival in Forth Worth. Some artists decided not to chance the weather, but others braved the elements out of necessity, “I came all this way, eighteen-hundred miles, I’m going to be open and I plan on selling something today," said artist Christopher Brown.

Meanwhile, Homeowners in Wylie are still cleaning up after last week's hailstorms. Today they're facing even more severe weather in the form of heavy rainfall.

Fox 4 toured a neighborhood where 90% of the homes sustained damage from softball sized hail. Some homes we toured had actual holes through interior ceilings where hail and punctured through roofs and come into people's living rooms.

Joel McCune's home took a beating from Mother Nature with busted windows along the backside of the property. The roof seemed to hold up but he hired a contractor to take a look anyway. He covered the roof with a tarp that he thought would hold up to today's rainfall.

"When this rain started coming in today, water started to leak and I saw a lot of damage starting to appear on the ceiling in three of my rooms. I started poking holes in the ceiling so the water could drain," McCune tells us.

The only part of the McCune's home that is not leaking is his living room which is where the family is forced to spend all their time right now.

A City of Wylie spokesman tells Fox 4 that firefighters were out today helping homeowners secure their roofs. First Baptist Wylie is also offering help to anyone in Wylie without insurance who needs help.
