Vietnam Wall replica on display in Lewisville

LEWISVILLE, Texas - A replica of the Vietnam Wall in Washington D.C. has found a temporary home in North Texas.

The Wall that Heals is a three-quarter scale replica of the memorial that bears the name of more than 58,000 men and women who lost their lives in the Vietnam War.

It’s 375 feet long and made up of 144 individual panels, which are transported around the country in an effort to honor the fallen war heroes.

One of the volunteers who used to help transport The Wall That Heals is from Lewisville. He made it his mission to bring it to his hometown. And hundreds of North Texans are glad he did.

“Anytime we have a chance to pay tribute to the ones that have gone before us and we can read the names and really solidify that that guy really did what we are here to do, it’s very touching,” said Robert Young, a Navy veteran.

Another Vietnam era nurse visiting the wall placed roses at the panels that list the eight nurses killed in the war.

The wall will be open to the public 24 hours a day at Lewisville Lake Park. There are volunteers on hand to help people find a name and make a rubbing and it’s even illuminated at night.

The traveling memorial will stay in North Texas until Sunday. There will be a closing ceremony before it is loaded up and taken to its next location.
