Vehicles finally being removed from collapsed Dallas parking garage

Residents at the Renaissance on Turtle Creek condominiums in Dallas will soon have their cars back nearly two months after the parking garage collapsed. Hundreds of vehicles were trapped while the garage could be stabilized.

Crews have been reinforcing the garage and building ramps and bridges to drive all 250 vehicles out. One man will be responsible for driving the cars down the seven story garage.

“I just received wonderful news. My car’s going to be the first one out of the garage,” said resident Robert Celli. “I saw pictures. It’s the first one on the ramp ready to come out.”

A wooden bridge supported by steel beams and scaffolding will be used to drive the cars out over several days.

“It’s been ok. A rental car’s been provided. It’s a minor inconvenience, not really a big deal. Just glad everything is working out and now one was hurt,” said resident Tyler Stevens.

Eleven hundred people live in three towers of the condominium complex.  Many people say it was a miracle none of the 800 people who park there was injured in the collapse.
