UNT student murder suspect confesses to crime

Denton police said Friday the now ex-Marine corporal arrested for the murder of a UNT student has confessed to the crime.

Police said Eric Jamal Johnson made the admission to investigators in Yuma, Arizona where he was stationed and arrested. He also expressed his sympathy to the family of the victim, 20-year-old Sara Mutschlechner.

A Marines spokesman said that Johnson was "administratively separated" from the Marine Corps under "other than honorable conditions" after the murder charge.

Police said Johnson was in an SUV with friends when he shot Mutschlechner in her car with her friends in Denton on New Year's Eve.

Johnson is originally from Fort Worth and was visiting. Johnson will be extradited to Texas later this month.
