Md. woman poured hot grits on man while he slept, cops say

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. -- A Prince George's County woman is accused of pouring hot grits on a man while he slept, authorities said.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Alexis Staton for first-degree assault.

After allegedly pouring grits on the victim, authorities said the suspect struck the man in the head with a baseball bat.

The incident happened July 31 at a home on Onyx Court in Capitol Heights.

According to an arrest warrant, the victim walked out of the house with burns to his body and with his head bleeding.

The violent outburst comes as no surprise to Staton's neighbor, Melody Love.

“I wouldn't be surprised,” said Love. “I speak to her. She speaks sometimes, but she's not really friendly.”

Neighbors said Staton boasted about being from Brooklyn, New York and often threatened children in this Capitol Heights neighborhood.

“She had some issues with her kids and some other kids in the neighborhood,” said Deena Medlock.

Staton has also been charged with second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
