Four people died in a house fire in Garland early Saturday morning.
The Garland Fire Department responded to the fire at 1416 Williams Drive around 1:15 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, people were still inside the home. Attempts were made to rescue victims but the efforts were unsuccessful, according to the Garland fire department.
Nine people were inside the home when the fire started. Five of them were able to exit.
An adult male and female and two small children who were sleeping in the back of the house were killed. They were all visiting from Bridgeport, Texas, firefighters said.
The fire started in an enclosed back patio. It does not appear the fire was intentionally set and the fire is still being investigated, firefighters said.
The home did have a smoke detector in the hallway but it is not known if it worked. The fire was reported by a neighbor who lived across the street.
