Two arrested after Desoto police chase

Desoto police arrested a man and a woman Saturday morning in Dallas after the pair led officers on a high speed chase.

Desoto Police Spokesman Nick Bristow says officers were called to a Tom Thumb Supermaket on Pleasant Run Road East just after 8am after two people reportedly stole an estimated 400 dollars worth of merchandise. The couple drove away from the store in a vehicle that had a paper license tag. Bristow says Desoto officers quickly spotted the getaway car and attempted to pull it over. Bristow says the driver didn't stop and  headed north onto I-35E at a high rate of speed.

Bristow says officers chased the vehicle into Dallas. The vehicle exited the interstate at East Ledbetter Road and crashed into a Dodge Charger and a utility pole in an interscetion. The two suspects then ran from officers. Bristow says witnesses told police where the suspects were hiding and the couple was taken into custody.

Bristow says officers arrested Henry Johnson Jr. and Cleyishia Jefferson on a variety of charges. Bristow says Johnson was on parole for a previous murder conviction. The vehicle used in the robbery had been stolen early Saturday in Dallas.

The people in the Dodge Charger did not require hospital treatment.
