Two-alarm fire damages units at Fort Worth apartment complex

Some families are without a home and others are without power after a two-alarm apartment fire in Fort Worth.

The fire damaged eight units in a 16-unit building at the Park Plaza apartments on Thursday night.

Fort Worth fire officials say thankfully, no residents or firefighters were injured after as flames ripped through the building.

Witnesses say a school resource officer that lives in the complex saw the fire and ran to help, kicking down doors so people could run to safety.

Fort Worth Fire officials say the situation quickly escalated to a two-alarm fire, forcing a defensive attack.

The Red Cross was on scene passing out blankets and food, as residents weren’t being allowed near the building.

There is no word yet on exactly how many people are displaced or what caused the fire.

A vice principal from nearby Mary Louise Phillips Elementary says she saw smoke from the fire as she was leaving work and rushed over.

She made food runs to feed kids and made sure the kids had clothing and a hotel to stay in to make sure her students don’t miss school Friday.
