Toy giveaway pays tribute to slain Dallas man

A toy giveaway in Dallas pays tribute to a Dallas father of two who was murdered more than a decade ago.

Larry Tutson's parents began an annual Christmas giveway at R.L. Blues Palace in south Dallas.

Their 29-year-old son was robbed and shot to death in 2002, and the case was never solved.

Wednesday would have been his birthday.

His family says blessing others during the holidays is one way to get past their pain.

“It's a terrible thing to lose a child and I wouldn’t wish it on anybody, but the only thing that has helped me to get past losing him is giving back, you know, a spirit of giving,” said Tutson’s mom, Barbara Smith.

The first year after Tutson's death, only a few families could be helped, but the event has grown and now serves hundreds of children.
