Tire fire burning in far West Dallas seen for miles

Firefighters were on the scene of a large tire fire near the Yello Belly Drag Strip on the border of Dallas and Grand Prairie on Thursday afternoon.

The fire was located on W. Davis Street, just west of Loop 12 and south of I-30. It was producing large, thick black smoke that could be seen for miles.

Because a majority of the piles of tires were surrounded by trees or in rough terrain, firefighters relied on ladder trucks and water cannons.

Dallas-Fire Rescue responded to the scene to battle the blaze and was able to put out the fire.

There were some light onlooker delays on I-30 from people slowing down to look at the smoke.

No one was hurt. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
