Vice President Mike Pence will return to check on the progress of those rebuilding after Hurricane Harvey.

Pence is scheduled to visit Rockport Wednesday. He’ll meet with first responders and FEMA representatives to get an update on how the community is coping one year after the Category 4 storm hit the Gulf Coast.

Rockport is just north of Corpus Christi along the coast. About 94 percent of homes there were damaged.

The government estimates nearly 15,000 structures were destroyed. The city said roughly half of all hotels are still shut down.

One family’s two-story, water-front property in the Copano Ridge neighborhood was wiped out by the storm.

“It was all over the place. There was the back wall left. Nothing on the top floor at all. Furniture all over the place, just nothing there,” said Vicki Friesenhahn.

The vice president will also be making a stop in Houston to take park in an America First Action roundtable discussion and Trump victory event.

His trip is part of a two-day visit to Texas and Louisiana.

The Rockport-Fulton community will mark the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Harvey with events through the weekend.
