Texas officer, TCU grad among those injured in Vegas

A Texas officer who was at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas during the shooting returned home Tuesday night.

Deputy Chief Bruce Ure of the Seguin Police Department near San Antonio is one of the lucky ones. He suffered only a minor injury to his hand.

But what he saw at the concert will live with him forever.

“He was shooting so fast you couldn’t count them. My estimate is that there were over 500 rounds shot. So I hit the deck and that’s when another round came by and came about 8 inches from me, from my head. That’s when it sliced my finger a little bit,” he said.

Despite his injury, he raced other injured concert goers to the hospital. He also made a tourniquet that he applied to one injured person to stem their bleeding.

All of the people he helped survived.

A graduate from TCU was also among the injured in Sunday’s attack. Elle Gargano graduated in 2016 and now works in California.

On Facebook, the company she works for wrote that she was near the front of the stage and was shot in the back of the head.

She had surgery early Monday morning and remains in critical condition.
