Terrell police shoot man threatening estranged wife

Terrell police Saturday morning shot and wounded a man who had been threatening his estranged wife.

Terrell police Captian A.D. Sansom says police had been searching for the man in the early morning hours. Police had been able to locate his vehicle but not the suspect. An off duty officer saw the man return to his vehicle and called on-duty officers to the area according to Sansom. The suspect drove away as officers arrived. Sansom says the suspect drove to the 300 block of Wall Street, got out of the vehicle armed with a pistol. The man then ran to the back of a home and was attempting to break in when he was shot by police. The police spokesman says the suspect's estranged wife was hiding in that house.

Sansom says police had been searching for the man since Tuesday when it was reported that he was stalking his estranged wife.

The name of the suspect has not been released by police. Sansom says the suspect's injuries are not life threatening.

The Texas Rangers are aiding Terrell police in the shooting investigation.
