Teen rescued from rain-swollen North Richland Hills creek

A teenager who went tubing in a rain-swollen creek in North Richland Hills Wednesday evening had to be rescued.

Jadon Gomez and his friends decided to float down Big Fossil Creek. They said they thought it would be safe because there were no rocks or waterfalls to deal with.

But the 16-year-old fell out of his tube. He managed to get to a log but his foot got stuck.

People heard his friends yelling for help and called 911. About an hour and a half later, rescuers from the North Richland Hills, Haltom City and Hurst fire departments pulled Gomez from the rushing water.

“I am very grateful, very thankful for them. I have a lot of respect for them going out of their way to come and help us,” he said.

Gomez was checked out and released. He was not hurt. He said the rescuers didn’t lecture him but he expects his mom will.

The teens said they have learned their lesson.
