FORT WORTH, Texas - A Tarrant County resident who recently traveled to the Caribbean has tested positive for the Zika virus, health officials said.
It is the first confirmed case of the virus in Tarrant County. Three others have tested positive in Dallas County, but all have since recovered from their symptoms.
The Zika virus is typically spread by Adese mosquitos. Symptoms are usually mild and include fever, rash, joint pain and red eyes. However, the virus can be transmitted sexually and is linked to birth defects in other countries.
Tarrant County has set up a hotline at 817-248-6299 for residents who may have questions or concerns.
