A carjacking suspect was shot in the leg by police Wednesday afternoon after police tried to arrest him.

The shooting happened in the 3000 block of MLK in South Dallas around 4:30 p.m.

Dallas police say METRO officers were in the area searching for the suspect, who had an active aggravated robbery warrant, from a carjacking offense that happened in the past three days in the area.

Police say the suspect ran away towards DISD officers across the street. When the suspect was running back towards Dallas police, police say he produced a handgun from his waist. An officer then drew his weapon and shot the suspect in the leg.

The suspect was transported to Baylor Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His identity has not been released.

No officers were injured during this incident.
