Surveillance video shows Highland Park Chanel smash and grab

FOX4 News obtained surveillance video on Tuesday of the smash and grab burglars who stole expensive handbags at the Chanel boutique in Highland Park.

The video shows what happened inside the store in Highland Park Village on Jan. 18 about 6:30 a.m.

The burglars used a van to smash through the store's glass window from Preston Road. The burglars can be seen inside grabbing purses and throwing them in trash bags before running away.

An off-duty police officer, working security, saw the thieves loading as many as 50 handbags into the van and another vehicle. The officer chased the van and the pursuit ended a short time later when the van's tires blew out.

Seven suspects were arrested -- five adults and two juveniles. All five adults are being held at Lew Sterrett Jail on $1 million bond each.
