Students spend day cleaning Trinity River Park

Students from the Manara Academy Charter School in Irving spent part of the day Tuesday cleaning up trash along the Trinity River.

Their service project called the Ten on Tuesday Pledge requires them to pick up at least 10 pieces of trash every Tuesday.

Their mission is to educate others about the importance of caring for the planet.

“We’re teaching them how to not litter so they don’t affect the environment in a bad way and how they’re polluting their own environment for themselves,” one student said.

The students found at least 64 cigarettes while they were cleaning the park.

So far about 20,000 people in North Texas haven taken on their Ten on Tuesday Pledge.
