Speeding driver slams into 18-wheeler, dies in crash

A driver who went speeding past a police officer died in crash Wednesday morning.

It happened around 11 a.m. on southbound Interstate 35E near Woodall Rodgers Freeway in Dallas.

According to Capt. Dan Rochelle with the Lewisville Police Department, the man was driving erratically as he passed up an officer who was in Dallas to pick up a prisoner.

The officer turned on his lights to warn the driver to slow down, but instead the man took off at a high rate of speed.

The man’s car ended up slamming into the back of an 18-wheeler. He was killed by the impact.

The Dallas Sheriff’s Office is looking into whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Several lanes of I-35E were shut down and traffic was backed up in the area around lunchtime.
