South Oak Cliff HS addresses school condition complaints

A 65-year-old school Dallas high school is in desperate need of repair, but the question is whether it's better to renovate or rebuild.

Some students are threatening to walk out of South Oak Cliff High School in protest if the board does not approve the budget for a new school at the end of April.

Photos taken earlier show ceiling leaks, fallen ceiling tiles and plumbing issues.

The district allowed FOX 4 inside the school late Tuesday afternoon and it appeared many of the complaints have been addressed.

The school district is urging students to stay in school regardless of the trustees’ decision on April 28.

School Board Trustee Lew Blackburn represents south Oak Cliff. He believes that a new school could be built for $65-70 million. The board has only committed $25 million for repairs so far.

Trustees are set to talk about the feasibility of building a new school April 14 before a vote later next month.
