Snow storms in the east affecting air travel

- People from Georgia to Pennsylvania and maybe up to New York are bracing for a huge winter storm.

Food and supplies quickly disappeared from grocery stores and a state of emergency has been declared in five states and the District of Columbia.

The National Weather Service says some areas could get more than 2 feet of snow.

“It’s a very large, slow-moving system. So where it’s actually going to snow, the snow’s going to last and in some cases greater than 24 hours. That’s why we’re going to see such large totals. Many times, winter storms dump snow 12, 18 hours at the most,” said Meteorologist Paul Kocin with the NWS.

Many schools and government offices are closed Friday and thousands of flights have been cancelled.

Flight cancelations are affecting people in North Texas. Hundreds of flights out of DFW Airport to the affected cities have been canceled.

Major airlines will allow travelers to re-book flights if they can find a new one without a penalty.
