Suspect dies after shooting at officers, high speed chase in Garland

UPDATE 2- Police have identified the now dead suspect as Alfredo Patino of Dallas.

He killed himself before police could arrest him. The woman who fled Patino's vehicle was arrested and questioned, but police released her without filing any charges.

UPDATE - Garland Police confirm that the suspect is dead.

Police tell Fox 4 that the chase began after officers responded to a woman's 911 call alleging the father of her children was following her in a black Chevrolet.

When officers located the vehicle the suspect opened fire as he drove eventually arriving at IH-635 and Freeport Parkway. Officers managed to force him off the road.

At that point a woman exited the vehicle and was arrested by police.

GARLAND -  Garland Police are currently in a standoff with a suspect that opened fire on officers before leading them on a high speed chase that ended at Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway and Freeport Parkway.

According to police, they responded to a disturbance call Saturday afternoon. When they approached the suspect's vehicle, shots were fired at officers. A high speed chase down IH-635 began and ended after the suspect wrecked the vehicle.

At this time police are in a standoff with the suspect, who has yet to exit the car.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
