Shields Elementary prepares for first day on new campus

Children who lost their school to a tornado will visit their temporary new classrooms Monday night.

A church in Red Oak, south of Dallas, will hold a prayer vigil for the Shields Elementary School students and their families at 5:30 p.m.

Then the district will host an open house at the new “Shields Elementary on Live Oak.” That’s the name given to the old Red Oak Junior High School, which was vacant.

Families will have the chance to learn about new pickup and drop-off procedures, bus routes and special events planned for the students’ return on Tuesday.

Repairs to the damaged school are expected to take months.
