Montague County Sheriff's deputies tried to pull over a suspect with warrants out of Tarrant County, but he sped off.
Before he ran into the woods near Hwy. 101, the Wise County Sheriff says he raised his gun at deputies, but did not shoot.
DPS troopers and two Wise County deputies were sent in with their dogs.
Two-year-old Pepper, a Dutch shepherd, tracked the suspect's scent.
The sheriff says the suspect rose from the leaves he was hiding under and shot the dog to death.
Deputies then shot and killed the suspect.
Pepper completed his training last year and began his service Jan. 1.
The sheriff says Pepper did exactly what he was trained to do.
